ISTE

The International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) was the outcome of a project called “The NETS”, short for National Educational Technology Standards. This project was initiated by ISTE’s Accreditation and Professional Standards Committee. It was funded by NASA in consultation with the U.S. Department of Education, the Millken Exchange on Education Technology and Apple Computer.  The NETS was first published giving technology teachers across America a set of standards that they did not formally have before 1998. Suddenly, technology teachers had standards in their field they could relate to and use to plan lessons for their students of all ages and begin to teach content that focused specifically on higher-order thinking skills and real-world problem solving; in short the NETS where Common Core before there was Common Core!
